MAUNA KEA OBSERVATORY

The highest spot at the Hawaiian Islands at 14000 feet. Most people head out there late in the afternoon
to watch the sunset. The top is not always open due to severe weather. The last part of the road is really
steep, unpaved, winding, sometimes even snow and ice conditions and not for the faint of hearth. .If you
want to take it easy and avoid the long drive or just don’t want to hear your loved ones gasp for air at every
turn you make go on a guided tour. If driving, you will need a 6 cylinder 4 wheel drive rental car. Most rental
companies do not offer insurance if you go there, meaning if you get into trouble you are on your own.

HAWAII VOLCANO NATIONAL PARK

Hardly a secret, you will see tours buses, lots of visitors, but the park is magnificent none the less.
Consider doing one of the hikes on the crater then follow the road all the way to the ocean. The
downhill slope to the ocean creates funny weather up there and you can get rained on once in a while.
Taking a helicopter tour is one of the best, but not the cheapest way to see the park in all its glory.

NA PALI COAST HIKE

The Kaulalau trail. In my opinion the best hike in Hawaii. Incredible views of the Napali coast
and huge waves in the winter months.Drive north on h all the way to the end. Get there early
Most people hike the 2.5 miles to the beach and some venture further and go the extra
1.8 miles to the Hanakapi'ai falls. If you plan to go further, permits are required
and it’s a multi day trip. You need to be in shape for this one. Weather can be tricky,
you might get a rain squall even on a good day and you will get muddy. Check in
for optimal weather.

WAIMEA VALLEY

Waimea Canyon. It’s hardly a secret but still really cool. Drive into
the Waimea and Koke’e parks, check the lookouts and scenery. If you can,
move away from the crowds and try one the many hikes. See the link pages
for info. Weather dependent. It rains quite a bit up there sometimes.

HALEAKALA

It’s hardly a secret, but it is one of Maui’s most know attractions for a reason. Located at
an elevation of 10000 ft the crater is amazing and offers some incredible hiking opportunities.
If you, be aware of the altitude. You must be in good physical condition. Another cool option is
a downhill bicycle ride; touristy but still way cool. If you get there early you see one of the
best sunrises ever! Open most of the time. Closed in winter sometimes due to severe weather.
Check in before going.

most famous dive and you might see many other dive boats, but it is an incredible experience. It is best to
depart from the Kihei side for a shorter boat ride. Many good outfits operate small boats that are ideal for
those dives.. Certified divers with at least 20 logged dives should only apply. Sea legs required.

dolphins, whales in the winter months and cool beaches in lanai. Sea Legs required.
Most times ok weather-wise.
